Everyone’s journey to wellness is different. For some people it is a natural and simple process and for other’s it is a daily struggle. Wherever you find yourself on your wellness journey today, I hope that you continue to make yourself and your health a priority. The secret to success in wellness is not giving up. Beginning again and again and not letting failures or setbacks define who you are, to sideline you, or to knock you out of the game.
For myself over the course of 30 years my wellness journey has been very choppy and overall it hasn’t worked for me and the lifestyle that I want to lead. There have been many successes and of course many failures. Every year I would start a fitness plan and I would work on it for 3/4’s of the year. Then, I would lose interest, motivation, or encounter an unavoidable health problem. This unhealthy cycle or loop would happen year after year.
For the past three years I have been on a wellness journey to discover what works for my body and what doesn’t. I didn't do everything perfectly. But what I have learned is that perfection isn’t necessary. What is necessary is carving out space each day whether it’s 5 min or 30 min to making your health a priority. Focusing on creating simple healthy meals, using meditation, or taking a walk outside. Just know that little steps are just as important as gigantic steps.
Below I have some quick tips that I hope will encourage and motivate you today.
Fix your mind everyday on your wellness goals. Whether it’s to get healthy, stay healthy, to be able to keep up with your kids, or just to look as great as you feel each day. To have a body that reflects who you are on the outside as well as in the inside. And to have a body that fits your lifestyle and your goals.
Accept that setbacks are a natural part of life and that you are human and will make mistakes.
Not punishing your body for dietary mistakes or blunders. But instead using your words and actions to uplift and encourage yourself.
Learning to listen to your body. Learning how to recognize your body’s true signals for nourishment, hydration, and rest.
Creating reset days. Days that act as reminders for you to begin anew. To let the past go and to step back into a healthy rhythm that works for you.
Setting boundaries around your fitness times and what you put into your body. Remember to keep moving and to keep moving forward.
Having realistic goals and expectations is key to staying motivated.
Recognizing, understanding, and accepting your body's limitations.
Understanding that the path to wellness isn’t a destination but a lifelong journey and every step forward is important step in living a healthy life.
