Inspired by the rolling hills in Ireland.
Banana Bird
This is the first time my oil pastels of birds have worked. I was trying to draw a red canary...lol.
This was inspired by my blog post about My Two favorite Native Americans. Until I started writing my memoirs I had forgotten an important moment in my life and my connection with the Native American community growing up, my missionary work in Montana, and driving through the midwest in a flash. I was able to stop at a Native American outpost to grab some souvenirs on the way. I have a tendency to do so much I often lose track. I helped drive my little sister and my mom to California. My sister got a writing gig and had to be in California in 3 days so we packed up the car quickly and drove cross country to California. We had 3 days to get there and we got there. I flew back home to Maryland with my mom and I was so wired. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life. It was a long nonstop 3,000 mile road trip, but it was well worth it. Good times!
Kenyan Basket
Reminds me of my trip to Kenya in 2003 to meet my family. I was so excited to finally be able to meet my grandma Esther. It was a long awaited dream come true. At my wedding almost five years ago my husband presented my mom with a basket of pantry goods. It was a beautiful moment.
Blue Marble Cup
This is an oil pastel that resembles one of my table centerpieces I used for my wedding. I love white/brown earthy beach themes with pops of turquoise. I love the contrast of colors. I wished I could have invited everyone I knew...ce la vie.
Farm Work
This is my backyard and the annual hard work it takes to get it presentable for the spring season it is a month long affair and it takes all year to manage and many hands. Despite the fact it is not large at all. Lord have mercy.
