When I was a little girl my family won a church fundraiser trip to Toronto, Canada. We earned this trip by being the top candy bar sales people. I remember this was the first trip my family at that point ever took. You see we didn't come from money so when we won the trip we were all super excited. I remember entering the city and entering the hotel from underground, underneath the hotel. The hotel was quite impressive, but the city was even more so. The city of Toronto had bigger skyscrapers, then Buffalo, so as a young girl I was completely impressed. We stayed for about 3 days and thankfully we didn't need a passport. I am also thankful that Buffalo was close to Toronto so the drive was less than 2 hours. In Toronto we visited the Science Museum and other sites.
The most memorable moment came when a group of us from church went underground to ride the subway. There was a bit of confusion with our directions and with the loud noise of the train and the excitement, my friend and I got separated by our loved ones. We were two kids lost in a giant metropolis city, the train sped away after the subway doors quickly slammed shut separating us from our loved ones. As the train sped away my heartbeat beated faster and faster, my eyes were wide and full of tears, and as my throat closed up, panic set in as I wondered if I would ever see my mom and my family ever again. Thankfully an angel immediately step up and told us that she would get off the train with us at the next stop and she would wait with us for our families to show up there. She was confident that our families would be right behind us on the next train. By the grace of God that is indeed what happened. It was like the prodigal son returning when we were united with our loved ones. To this day I still remember the beautiful city of Toronto and the rush of emotions I felt being separated from my mom, my family, and my church community. I was also glad I had a good friend by my side through it all, because we will always have Toronto. I look forward to retracing my steps when I return to Toronto fairly soon.
