Wear Orange on 6/2-6/4 to Honor Victims and Survivors of Gun Violence

Photo taken in Baltimore City a few years ago.

Recently I attended a Wear Orange Volunteer Meeting. The Moms Demand Action group wanted to bring awareness to the community about future events planned. These events honor victims and survivors of gun violence. The Moms Demand Action group works alongside other community leaders like Governor Wes Moore and bipartisan representatives who are working together to end gun violence in Maryland and beyond.

Moms Demand Action group partners with WearOrange.org to promote gun violence awareness as well as honoring the victims and survivors of gun violence. This group was well informed and wanted to educate people especially other moms about current legislation that is currently on the governor's desk in May and the success of the group on getting three bills passed recently.

Moms Demand Action group focuses on keeping the attention on what matters most to our hearts and that is protecting children through facts, advocacy, and activism. This group wanted to make it clear that they are not against gun ownership but against gun violence and the lack of responsible legislation that doesn't protect citizens like we are seeing in Texas. Legislation that makes it too easy for eighteen year olds to get easy access to guns. They also wanted to inform the audience about ways they can help get involved. Wether that be through quiet activism or something more active or in-between.

We heard from a victim of gun violence as she walked us through upcoming events during the presentation. This Moms Demand Action group was part of the Howard county chapter. They were friendly well informed and enthusiastic about the wear orange movement.

The wear orange movement is an effort to work in solidarity with victims of gun violence across the nation. This group was started by African American young females who wanted to respond in a positive way to the death of their young friend who was shot in Chicago. This movement has spread nationwide. They are many events planned, you can find more information in how you too can make a difference at Moms Demand Action website.

This event helped me to see that I can make a difference and help protect others just by being well informed. By showing up to one meeting I am now a part of the hard work that these two groups are doing. You can join our efforts by wearing orange to show your support. By attending a meeting and/or by wearing orange you are doing something, something very important. You are helping to bring awareness to your friends and family around the world.
