Recently I had the opportunity to go to work with my spouse and I learned so much. I was so excited that it got other people excited. It is good to know that children are being reinvited to go to work with their parents again. You see long ago children worked alongside of their parents as mini apprentices and previously prior to 9/11 and Oklahoma City bombing employees were allowed to bring their children to work to visit.
Children gain so much valuable knowledge that it often inspires them to also go into the same fields as their parents and family members. We need that for children of first responders, educators, ministers, and etc. As leaders we have to continue to find ways to help parents educate their children because when you educate a child you are indeed educating the world. I hope that the current tide continues as we all reintegrate back into our world.
I believe that a formal education is key for children's success but I also believe that having the experience of being a mini apprentice and being apart of a good homeschooling program does as well. These approaches work well with providing children with academic learning and hands-on-learning experiences in real time. I strongly believe that a hybrid approach is needed in order to prepare children for the future. I also believe that autonomy of homeschooling must be left to the parents discretion.
I also wouldn't be the person I am today without a hybrid approach in education during my high school years. You see I graduated with honors. I received a Presidential award for being in the top ten percent of my graduating class. I graduated high school with a technical certificate for Cosmology from BVTC Buffalo Vocational Technical Center and from Lafayette High School. I spent my last two years of high school at two different schools each day. As a person who is high functioning I needed the practical and academic side to be able to navigate my world.
The academic and religious side of learning normally comes a bit easier and makes more sense. However, the technical practical side is extremely difficult for me. Children and families are very different whereas one approach may work for some but not for all children and families. We must continue to keep the conversations going so that we can continue to help all families where they are at.
As an educator field trips are vital to the success of any student especially high school children and young adults in college or university. Without taking field trips to Washington D.C. at various levels my siblings and I would have never come down to the DMV to live, work, and play. We learned the value of our national treasures and we hope to share them with the world. I look forward to sharing my experiences of traveling to the Kings Center in Atlanta, Georgia and Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida and my learning from each of them. I hope to share my learning so everyone around the world can continue to make positive changes to better the lives of those around us each day but especially the lives of parents as well as school age children and young adults.
May God continue to bless our families and our nations as we continue to look for the answers we seek.
