When I was a little girl going to the Downtown Roller Skating rink was a rare treat. It was in a large square historic building that took up a huge city block. My family and I walked swiftly to the Skating Rink on Saturday afternoons. It was faith skate day and it was the best day of the week listening to Amy Grant and Micheal W. Smith on the stereo, so loudly that it vibrated through the building and shook the plexiglass windows. We hung out with friends upstairs on the top level overlooking the city. Cheering, giggling, eating, and chitchatting about life. We skated for hours undisturbed. Skating zigzags, straight lines, and circles backwards and forwards around the large oval rink.
