As a dream catcher and an educator I have the remarkable ability to hone in on identifying and cultivating the special gifts, talents, and abilities of my fellowman. It is like the tv show Monk often stated, "It's a blessing and a curse." I feel sorry for my loved ones because it doesn't always come across the way that it is intended or how it should be. I often imagine myself as a Disney princess and sometimes when I have the foresight to say things the right way it comes out like honey. Other times it more like a bee sting and it has the negative potential to hurt the people that I love. I try to do what Julie Andrews sang in the Sound of Music, "A spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down..." But, often times it just comes out like a roar and it's a double edge sword because it hurts me just as much as the person who hears it. And sometimes its not just for them but me too and anyone else that is listening. Educators, leaders, and moms especially have the hardest job of being disliked or even hated for the things they have to say in order to dig out the ugliness or cultivate beauty out of ashes.
You see in the Bible, Jesus comes to us as a Lion and a Lamb, and as parents, educators, or leaders we must walk in wisdom and discernment but also love and truth. And sometimes truth must win out and can't be directly or indirectly implied it must be directly stated. Communicating with others is so difficult. So the question of the day is what can we do to become better dream catchers and educators in our real lives? How can we cultivate greatness in others as God intended? How do we not give up hope before we reap a harvest? It's all about following the greatest teacher and Rabbi that ever lived. Yes, Jesus.
I love the book, "52 weeks with Jesus" because it broke the life of Jesus down into manageable chunks for a simple gal like myself who needs Jesus everyday and for Jesus to be unpacked slowly each day. I prescribe to the motto, "You must read to succeed" which hung in my classroom for almost two decades. To be a great leader you have to read. No matter where you look all roads lead back to our Heavenly Father. All roads lead to Jesus. When you trace your roots back in history, faith culture, or ancestor roots all roads lead to Jesus. This is because Jesus is the author and finisher of our fate. If we allow Him into our lives each day. He will bring out the goodness and greatness in us and in our families. He just needs one moment of your time each day and He will do the impossible through you and those around you.
May the blessings of the Lord be with you and your family as you decide each day to follow Him in the way in which He directs you. In Jesus Name Amen.
