Flashback: Simple Beginnings

When I was in High School in the late 90's I went to a historic school located in Buffalo, New York. It was filled with history, wisdom, and lots of joy. It's been almost thirty years yet I still remember our alma matter and our core values which are loyalty, honor, and service. Those words have been my guide post through life.

I remember sitting on the lower level of my multi-story high school when a earthquake hit. I remember being so frightened because I was on the lowest level. Thankfully, my English teacher calmed us down by just talking to us about our High School hero Lafayette. I don't remember what was said but I remember praying and realizing everything was going to be okay. I prayed for the school, my siblings, my parents, and my communities. We got through that day by talking about it with our loved ones at home. The power of prayer and family meal times which was the glue that kept our siblings together despite the challenges of losing my dad and facing hard times. I love the popular saying that a family that prays together stays together. But it is more than that. For me prayer isn't just a linear path. It is an all compassing 360 degree process of praying for peace, wisdom, provisions, protection and that it starts with me. This is a powerful prayer. As I continue to follow God I become more and more aware of how humbling this prayer is for me and for those I love. It's a huge cross to carry so I am so happy that we have Jesus to lead the way and that I have wonderful friends and family to help embrace me with their love.

I look forward to unpacking what it means to pray together and the process of walking arm and arm through life with those God has given to you to mentor, protect, lead, and guide.

May the blessing of Abraham and the blood of Jesus continue to cover you and your families as you continue to live the uncompromised word of God.
