Embracing the Season of Lent

Updated: Mar 9

But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1: 7.

In this season of Lent, I want to pursue God in a deeper way like never before. To increase my faith and develop a stronger relationship with God, that for me means letting go of unnecessary obligations and routines that distract me from seeking and spending time with the Lord. Laying my physical and mental burdens down at the feet of Jesus so that I have room in my life and in my schedule to seek the Lord in a more consistent and faithful manner. To learn more about Him and to become more like Mary the sister of Martha and Lazarus.

In the story of Mary and Martha in Luke 10:38-42, it tells of two sisters seeking to do the right thing. Martha was busy preparing food while Mary sat at Jesus' feet. Jesus praised Mary for choosing the better way by listening to his teachings and focusing on him. He rebukes Martha for being overly concerned and worried about many things. Her mind was set on worldly tasks.

This season of Lent, I want to spend more time like Mary just sitting and learning more about Jesus. Jesus invites us everyday to spend time with Him. We can do that by simply setting time aside each day to focus on Him. There are a variety of ways we can choose to do so. Some simple ways are setting time aside throughout the day to pray, mediate, and read the scriptures alone or with others. This season of Lent, I want to be more intentional about dwelling in His presence, and inviting my family to join me as we seek His divine peace and wisdom for our lives. Not looking to obtain a gold star from man, but a more meaningful connection with our Heavenly Father. To sit at His feet and dwell in His peaceful presence allowing His light to shine brighter within us as we head into the Easter season.
